The VIP Online SocietyConnecting the young vision impaired community for support, networking and friendship. The VIP Online Society is a private initiative to bring together the entire young (16-35 year old), blind and vision impaired people, Australia wide. As we believe a united and cohesive "young blind community" is only a benefit for all. The Online Society brings together vision impaired people (VIP) from all backgrounds and life circumstances to one general cyber location. The correspondence is all carried out via E-mail, therefore a non-intrusive or confronting mean to meet new people. This contact creates mutual support to members; establishing ties and networks; and most importantly it develops friendships. The most crucial aspect the online society creates and the feeling which members experience, is the sense of belonging to a real and exclusive "blind community". The end goal and reasons for the development of this online group, is to allow members interaction and contact to create confidence, growing self esteem, a supportive bunch of friends and most importantly a sense of pride. Members of the VIP Online Society enjoy meeting and making new friends in a secure site which is accessed from the comfort of their own homes. Registered members have access to member only areas where they could view member profiles, read and participate in group forums, receive monthly E-newsletters, take part in our member's chat room, and much more. All features of the Online group and this Internet site is for member's enjoyment and to further develop bonds within the community. This group is only the starting point for the further establishment of future interest, activism or other recreational groups. This is just the starting point and the beginning of something special, lasting into the future and potentially life changing. Since the VIP Online Society's establishment on 28 May 2006, there is a sound member base of over 86 young adults who are ready to act as support for those who are recently coming to terms with vision loss, while a pier support network is present, to assist vision impaired high school students if needed. The potential of this structure is limitless, and the benefits and support it could provide is insurmountable. If you desire to become a member or for more information, simply E-mail Dawson Ko at dawson_ko@hotmail.com expressing interest in joining or to have your questions answered. Please take part in this initiative to bring together the entire young VIP community accross Australia. We are all looking forward in welcoming you to our Online Society. |
